「大正の歌麿」と称される五葉は、浮世絵の伝統美と西洋的な写実主義を高度に融合させた絵師です。彼は版画制作において、彫りや摺りの工程にまで完璧主義を貫き、それまでの浮世絵にはなかった圧倒的な質感と洗練されたモダンな情緒を生み出しました。
【髪梳ける女】
五葉の代表作であり、近代木版画の最高到達点の一つと目される傑作です。入浴後と思われる、赤い長襦袢（ながじゅばん）を纏った女性が、長く豊かな黒髪を櫛で梳く姿を捉えています。
最大の見どころは、超絶的な技法で表現された「黒髪」の描写です。一本一本が独立して見えるほど細密に彫り込まれた毛筋の表現は、職人の極致ともいえる技術の結晶です。また、背景に施された「雲母摺（きらすり）」の繊細な輝きが、女性の白い肌と、鮮やかな紅色の衣をいっそう艶やかに浮き上がらせています。

This work is widely regarded as Goyo's absolute masterpiece and a pinnacle of the Shin-hanga movement. It depicts a woman in a vivid red undergarment (nagajuban) meticulously combing her long, flowing black hair after a bath. The defining feature of this print is the incredible detail of the hair; each strand is carved with such precision that it creates a sense of tactile realism. The shimmering mica background (Kira-suri) enhances the translucency of her skin and the richness of the red fabric.
