「大正の歌麿」と称され、短い活動期間ながらも近代木版画（新版画）の歴史に不滅の足跡を残した天才絵師。浮世絵の伝統的な技法を継承しつつ、西洋画で培った確かなデッサン力を融合させた、極めて緻密で官能的な女性像を確立しました。

五葉の代表作であり、大正期新版画の到達点の一つとされる傑作です。入浴後でしょうか、薄物を羽織った女性が鏡に向かい、白粉（おしろい）を首筋に塗る刹那の仕草を切り取っています。
特筆すべきは、当時の最高技術を駆使した質感の表現です。背景には「雲母摺（きらすり）」という、キラキラと輝く鉱物粉を用いる伝統技法が施され、それが女性の透き通るような肌の白さを神々しいまでに引き立てています。
女性の指先の柔らかな表情、鏡を見つめる物憂げな眼差し、そして肩から滑り落ちそうな着物の質感。五葉は、日常の極めて私的な一瞬の中に、時代を超越する「永遠の女性美」を封じ込めました。

Often referred to as the "Utamaro of the Taisho era," Goyo was a genius artist who revitalized the tradition of Japanese woodblock prints (Shin-hanga). He combined the classical aesthetics of Ukiyo-e with the precise drafting skills of Western realism to create sensuous and sophisticated portrayals of women.

This is Goyo's most celebrated masterpiece and a pinnacle of the Shin-hanga movement. It captures a private, intimate moment of a woman applying white powder (oshiroi) to her neck after a bath. A key feature of this work is the use of the "Kira-suri" technique—a traditional method where powdered mica is applied to the background to create a shimmering effect, making the woman's pale, translucent skin appear almost divine. The delicate movement of her fingers, her melancholic gaze, and the soft texture of her garments all contribute to an atmosphere of quiet sensuality. Goyo successfully transformed a fleeting personal moment into a timeless icon of feminine beauty.
