【牡丹雪】
空から舞い落ちる大きな雪の粒――牡丹雪（ぼたんゆき）の中を、蛇の目傘を差し、袂（たもと）を合わせて歩む二人の女性を描いた作品です。
本作の見どころは、凍てつくような冬の空気感と、その中で際立つ「色彩」の妙にあります。雪の白さを背景に、女性たちが纏う着物の深みのある色調、そして傘の朱色が鮮やかなコントラストを生み出しています。

This masterpiece depicts two women walking through a heavy, soft snowfall—often called "Peony Snow" in Japan due to the large, flower-like flakes. Holding a traditional oil-paper umbrella (janome-gasa), they navigate the wintry landscape with graceful resilience. Shoen masterfully uses the contrast between the pure white snow and the vibrant reds and deep tones of their kimonos to create a visually striking and emotionally resonant scene.
