【棕櫚雄鶏図】
鋭く尖った棕櫚の葉を背景に、堂々たる体躯の雄鶏を配した、若冲の構成力が光る一図です。当時としては珍しい南方の樹木である棕櫚の葉を、幾何学的なパターンとして捉え、画面を縦横に切り裂くような大胆な意匠で描いています。その手前で、真っ赤な鶏冠（とさか）を揺らす雄鶏。尾羽の複雑な重なりや、力強く地面を踏みしめる脚の描写には、若冲の生命に対する畏敬の念が込められています。「鋭さ」と「力強さ」が同居する、モダンでエネルギッシュな名作です。
