【老松孔雀図】
「動植綵絵（どうしょくさいえ）」の中でも、最も華麗で、若冲の技巧の凄まじさを象徴する一図です。老松の枝に止まり、見事な尾羽を広げる孔雀。若冲は尾羽の「目」のような文様を、墨の濃淡と極細の線、そして宝石のような色彩を使い分け、執拗なまでの密度で描き込みました。画面を斜めに横切る松の力強さと、孔雀の繊細で高貴な美しさの対比。白磁のタイルの上で、江戸の天才が描いた「神々しいまでの美」が現代に蘇ります。
