【池鯉鮒 首夏馬市】
三河国（愛知県）の宿場、池鯉鮒。ここでは初夏（首夏）に大規模な「馬市」が開かれ、数百頭もの馬が集まったと言われています。画面いっぱいに描かれた馬たちが草を食む様子や、木陰で商談をする人々の姿。初夏の草原を吹き抜ける風を感じさせるような、穏やかで生命力にあふれた一枚です。
