【川崎 六郷渡舟】
武蔵国（神奈川県）の宿場、川崎。幕府の防衛上の理由により橋を架けることが許されなかった多摩川を、人々は「六郷の渡し」の舟で渡りました。ひしめき合うように乗り込む旅人と、竿を操る船頭。川向こうには川崎宿の家並みが広がり、江戸を目前にした旅人の安堵と期待が入り混じる、臨場感あふれる一枚です。

[Kawasaki The Rokugo Ferry]
Kawasaki station was separated from the road to Edo by the Tama River. This tile depicts the "Rokugo Ferry," the essential means of crossing the river where no bridge was allowed for defense reasons. The crowded ferry boat and the distant view of the post town capture the lively movement and the sense of anticipation as travelers neared the capital.
