荒井渡という渡し場での舟の光景が描かれています。幔幕が張られた船は大名行列の一行を乗せた御座船です。舟が向かう先にあるのは関所。この関所は幕府直轄で、取り調べが特に厳しいことで知られていました。

“Ferryboat”
This is a post station located in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture.
It depicts a boat at a ferry called Araiwatari. The boat with a curtain on it is a barge carrying a group of feudal lords. The place where the boat is heading is a checkpoint. This checkpoint was under the direct control of the Edobakufu and was known for its particularly strict interrogations.
