【隠田水車】
現在の東京・表参道から原宿近辺にあたる「隠田」の風景です。当時は渋谷川が流れ、多くの水車が回るのどかな農村でした。画面右側に大きく配された水車と、そこから激しく流れ落ちる飛沫の描写は圧巻。重い荷を運ぶ農夫や米を研ぐ女性など、人々の力強い生活感の向こうに、富士山が静かにそびえています。「円（水車）」と「三角形（富士）」という対照的な図形を組み合わせた、北斎の卓越したデザインセンスが光る一枚です。

[Waterwheel at Onden]
This tile depicts Onden, an area near present-day Harajuku and Omotesando in Tokyo. Once a peaceful farming village, it featured many waterwheels along the Shibuya River. The dynamic splash of water and the massive wooden wheel dominate the right side of the composition. In contrast to the busy activities of the villagers, Mount Fuji stands calm and serene in the distance. Hokusai masterfully plays with geometric shapes—the circle of the wheel and the triangle of the mountain—to create this energetic yet balanced masterpiece.
